Vaulter Torben Laidig sets new Tech record

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - After recording two new personal bests, pole vautler Torben Laidig reset the Virginia Tech track & field program record on Friday night at the Penn State National Invitational.

The sophomore shattered his previous mark, reaching a new height of 5.56 meters (18-3) to improve his best and set a new program record.

“He [Torbin Laidig] was very steady tonight, jumping two personal bests: 5.51 meters (18-1) and 5.56 meters (18-3),” pole vault coach Bob Phillips said. “He was a little tired at the end but it looked like he had something left in the tank, which is good for future meets.
