The Virginia Tech Hokies drop their season opener to the Citadel Bulldogs

No one who loves baseball says that it's an easy game. Nothing in baseball is actually easy. There are life skills involved in the sport, throwing, catching, and hitting are fundamentals that even the greatest professionals completely whiff on occasionally. It's a game of averages, with a maddening array of statistics (both old baseball, and newfangled Sabermetrics) there's WAR (Wins above Replacement) and OBP (On Base Percentage) and even more inscrutable numbers like ERA (Earned Run Average) all of which are significant unless they aren't. Baseball is a game that pits the past against today, and the near future and generally basically breaks even.
