BLACKSBURG – With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the ninth, Joe Freiday, Jr. smacked an RBI single to center field to score Phil Sciretta and give the Virginia Tech baseball team a 5-4 win over the Pitt Panthers in ACC action Friday night at English Field at Union Park.
Trailing for most of the game, the Panthers tied the game in the top of the ninth on a one-out single, which chased Tech starter Kit Scheetz, who was trying to record his first collegiate complete game.
