LEXINGTON, Va. – Despite a career-high four RBI from Nick Menken, the Virginia Tech Hokies dropped a nonconference contest at Gray-Minor Stadium Wednesday night when VMI’s Peyton Maddox hit a walk-off home run to give the hosts a 9-7 victory.
After the Hokies took a 7-6 lead in the seventh, VMI scratched a tying run across the plate in the eighth before getting the game-winning run on first with one out in the ninth. Maddox then hit a 3-1 pitch over the left field wall to give the Keydets the win.
VMI (21-18) opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on a three-run home run by Collin Fleischer, his sixth home run of the year and 42nd of his career – a VMI school record.
