BLACKSBURG – In the rubber match between the two schools, the Pittsburgh Panthers jumped out to an early lead and then held off the Virginia Tech Hokies to register the ACC series win with an 8-3 victory on Sunday afternoon at English Field at Union Park.
Trailing by eight, the Hokies used a three-run rally in the fourth to cut into the Panthers lead. In fact with the bases loaded and down 8-2, Rahiem Cooper almost made it a two-run contest with a grand slam in the frame, but the ball sailed just foul.
