BLACKSBURG – Runs were at a premium during the first seven innings at English Field Friday night and Virginia Tech got a strong starting pitching performance from Packy Naughton to help them to a 5-2 victory over Quinnipiac in nonconference baseball action.
Naughton kept the Bobcats off the board through five frames, just long enough for the Hokies to strike first with three runs. The bullpen took over from there and a two-run eighth frame provided some insurance for the home team.
Naughton registered his first win of the season and improved to 1-2, while Aaron McGarity saved his first game of the year in the ninth.
