BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women’s basketball team wrapped up the non-conference slate with a 12-1 record to match the second best start in program history as the Hokies beat Furman on Wednesday afternoon, 59-30.
The best start by a Virginia Tech team was an 18-1 start during the 1998-99 season. Tech also opened 2003-04 and 2005-06 with 12-1 marks. With the loss, Furman fell to 6-7 on the year.
“I thought we were terrific defensively,” head coach Dennis Wolff said. “We were really locked in right from the start. Furman is a team that has played well and played BCS schools and they are scoring at a high rate.
