In March Virginia Tech alum Ben Lundgaard signed a pro contract with Atlanta United in Major League Soccer (MLS). The one-year deal with an option for two additional seasons comes after a successful 2020 with Atlanta’s USL side. After joining MLS in 2017, Atlanta quickly became a force on and off the pitch picking up the MLS Cup in 2018, the US Open Cup in 2019, and regularly brought in crowds around 50,000 to Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Lundgaard made 70 appearances for the Hokies during his four seasons in Blacksburg earning the captain’s armband and becoming an All-ACC First Team selection during his senior year.
