Track and Field
This past week the NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships were held in Eugene, Oregon. The women’s team finished in 11th place, which is the second-best representation in program history. The men’s squad finished 32nd.
Virginia Tech did bring home a national champion. With a throw of 58.76 meters (192 feet, 9 inches) Irena Sediva earned her second individual national championship in the javelin. Irena also won the individual national championship back in 2015, but was unable to compete in either the 2016 ACC or NCAA tournaments due to injury.
