Seth Greenberg came to Virginia Tech in 2003 from South Florida with very little fanfare. Greenberg, who spent seven seasons as the head basketball coach with the Bulls, had also coached Long Beach State for six seasons before his time at USF.
When Greenberg came to Blacksburg, the basketball program was in bad shape. The Ricky Stokes era produced one winning season — his first — followed by three straight losing seasons.
Greenberg’s first season in charge of the Hokies was their final season in the Big East. The Hokies joined the ACC in 2004, and Greenberg posted a winning season in 2004-05.
