In Des Kitchings’ first two seasons as the Virginia Cavaliers offensive coordinator, the Wahoos’ tight ends have combined for just 33 catches and 442 yards.
Alongside being the play caller, Kitchings also serves as the tight ends coach, despite the group’s lack of production. Tight ends have been primarily used as blockers in his scheme so far. Former walk-on Sackett Wood Jr. is responsible for 306 of those yards through two years.
Wood will be the only familiar pass catcher in the tight end room this season for sophomore quarterback Anthony Colandrea after he received an NCAA waiver to return for a fifth season.
