The No. 4-seeded Virginia men’s lacrosse team got a big win on Saturday afternoon over No. 5-seed Georgetown, giving the Hoos a return ticket to the NCAA semifinals for the second straight time. Virginia got a career-high six goals from redshirt first year Connor Shellenberger, and the defense stood tall as the Hoos won 14-3.
Shellenberger was outstanding, making life miserable for the entire Hoya defense. After the game, Georgetown head coach Kevin Warne was clearly impressed with Shellenberger’s play, saying, “No. 1 was fantastic, one of the best players in the country.”
After an opening four minutes that saw back-and-forth action that led to the score tied at one, Virginia rattled off nine straight goals to lead 10-1 at the half.
