Getting in the win column: Virginia’s winless start to the season isn’t a huge shock considering the Cavaliers played two opponents ranked in the Associated Press top 15. But the 34-27 loss to Notre Dame last Saturday, in which the Fighting Irish scored the go-ahead touchdown with 12 seconds left in the game, took a mental toll. With a game against Boise State looming next Friday night, lower-division William and Mary is the only breather in Virginia’s challenging nonconference schedule.
