The Virginia Cavaliers suffered a demoralizing 63-51 loss on Saturday to the SMU Mustangs. While SMU dominated in the post, Virginia had no clear point guard to initiate an efficient offense.
Despite the ‘Hoos limiting SMU scoring in traditional Virginia fashion (22 points below their season average), the team suffered a variety of trivial mistakes, exposing their lack of team chemistry. 14 turnovers, 19 fouls, and 34% shooting – there’s a lot to tighten up.
As a newer roster, the team is lacking an identity, with few role-players emerging to lead on the court.
The ‘Hoos were outscored in the paint 30-10 against SMU.
