Virginia’s defense allowed an opening drive touchdown by Pittsburgh, so they were in much need of something good happening with their first offensive possession to say afloat. They got that on their second offensive play from the line of scrimmage, as running back Albert Reid bust open a 71-yard run through the belly the Panthers defense.

Virginia ran a fake reverse to stump the Pittsburgh defense before quarterback Matt Johns handed the ball off to Reid up the middle. He got the spacing needed and was able to bounce through the hole for the big gain before being ran down and tackled at the Pitt 10-yard line.
