A win over previously undefeated West Virginia bumped up Virginia two spots to No. 8 in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 poll, released Monday.
The No. 8 spot is Virginia’s (8-1) highest rank since falling out of the top 10 on Nov. 23, which was the first time the Cavaliers had been out of the top 10 since March 3, 2014. The Cavaliers started the season at No. 6, the team’s best preseason ranking since it began the 1982-83 season at No. 1.
Senior forward Anthony Gill was also named ACC player of the week for his performance in the 70-54 win over the Mountaineers in the Jimmy V Classic last Tuesday.
