As if being named a first-team All-American or UVa's first ACC player of the year since Ralph Sampson weren't enough, Malcolm Brogdon was commended on Friday by the Virginia House of Delegates in House Resolution No. 262.
The resolution was introduced by Del. David Toscano (D-Charlottesville), who represents the Commonwealth's 57th district and graduated from the UVa law school. The district includes much of the greater Charlottesville area, including Grounds.
WHEREAS, Malcolm Moses Brogdon, a member of the University of Virginia men’s basketball team, was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in 2016; and
WHEREAS, Malcolm Brogdon became the first player to receive both awards in the same year since the Defensive Player of the Year award was created in 2005; he was also named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) first team for the third consecutive year; and
WHEREAS, Malcolm Brogdon was named a First-Team All-American by the Sporting News, an honor last bestowed on a member of the University of Virginia men’s basketball team in 1983; and
WHEREAS, during the 2015 - 2016 regular season, Malcolm Brogdon led the University of Virginia Cavaliers to a 24 - 6 record, with an average of 18.
