There might be snow on the ground in Charlottesville, but it’s officially baseball season!
The Virginia Cavaliers baseball team opened the 2025 season with a heartbreaking 5-4 loss in extra innings on Valentine’s Day against the Michigan Wolverines in the first game of the Puerto Rico Challenge on Friday afternoon.
The ‘Hoos tied the game up twice, but were never able to take a lead, and an error by substitute first baseman Anthony Perrota resulted in a walk-off run for the Wolverines in the 11th.
Senior right-hander Jay Woolfolk started the game and pitched 4 2⁄3 innings, giving up six hits and two runs but striking out five.
