After an impressive beginning to the MLB season, former Virginia Cavalier star Ryan Zimmerman was National League Player of the Month for April. The Washington Nationals first baseman led all of baseball in batting average (.420), RBI’s (29), and home runs (11) for the month. Zimmerman was also first in advanced stats like slugging percentage (.886) and OPS (1.345).
Zimmerman’s resurgence comes after three injury-plagued years in which he missed 215 of a possible 486 games. The “Face of the Franchise” in Washington only batted .218 in 2016 and was a major question mark going into the year.
