In the wake of Virginia’s 37-17 loss to in-state rival Virginia Tech last Saturday that handed the Cavaliers their third straight losing season under Tony Elliott the mood surrounding the program was one of dissatisfaction and frustration.
Dissatisfaction with the on-field results that haven’t yielded a postseason birth since 2019 and that have seen the team in Blacksburg take 23 of the last 25 November meetings. And frustration with the unserious nature in which the Virginia football program continued to operate, resisting adaptation in the strange new world of college athletics.
The fanbase, knowing how far behind the eight ball Virginia athletics is both monetarily and philosophically in terms of academic standards, has spelled out “SOS” in the sand on possibly the most desolate island in the ACC.
