The Virginia Cavaliers football team kicked off their 2024 season with a commanding 34-13 win at home over the Richmond Spiders.
Sophomore quarterback Anthony Colandrea shined in the bright orange uniforms, and the defense demonstrated signs of marked improvement from last season. Beating down on an FCS team isn’t anything to boast about, but the dominating win was a necessity to inspire confidence in year three of the Tony Elliott era in Charlottesville.

It was unclear whether Anthony Colandrea would start in the season opener until about a week ago, when Tony Elliott announced that he would start over fifth-year senior Tony Muskett.
