In a Wednesday afternoon press conference, Virginia Cavaliers interim head coach Ron Sanchez spoke publicly for the first time since taking the reins from Tony Bennett following Bennett’s retirement last Thursday.
Sanchez was, understandably, quick to emphasize that the program won’t be undergoing systematic changes following Bennett’s departure.
“This is something that has taken years to establish,” he said, referencing the Virginia way as something that he’s looking to maintain as the new head coach. “That culture was led by a phenomenal human being who was an amazing basketball coach. It would be a mistake for me to come here and expect that I could do things completely different and try to have the same results.
