The Virginia Women’s Field Hockey team picked up a huge conference win with a 2-1 double overtime victory over 10th ranked Syracuse Friday night on the turf in Charlottesville. No. 8 ranked Virginia improved to 3-1 (1-0 ACC) on the season with the dramatic win while the Orange picked up their first loss of 2018 and fell to 3-1 (0-1 ACC).
Both teams had to weather (no pun intended) a 45 minute delay due to lightning in the first half, and the score was knotted at 0-0 when they entered halftime. Syracuse got on the board first thanks to a goal from Laura Graziosi off of a penalty corner, but the Cavaliers responded a minute later with a goal from Makayla Gallen.
