CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) Backup quarterback DeShone Kizer threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Will Fuller with 12 seconds left Saturday and No. 9 Notre Dame beat Virginia in a thrilling finish, 34-27.
The Fighting Irish (2-0), who had lost the lead when Virginia scored with 1:54 remaining, won despite quarterback Malik Zaire going down with an ankle injury.
Zaire was hurt in the third quarter, before Virginia (0-2) rallied to take the lead, and Kizer came to the rescue on the final drive.
