Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer is carried by his players after defeating the Virginia Cavaliers 23-20, at Scott Stadium.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Joey Slye kicked a 41-yard field goal with 1:38 remaining Saturday and Virginia Tech gave retiring Frank Beamer his 12th consecutive win over Virginia, 23-20, and a chance to coach his team in one more bowl game.
A week after losing in the final home game of Beamer's 29 years as coach, the Hokies (6-6, 4-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) didn't let him down on the road. Chuck Clark sealed the outcome with an interception with 59 seconds remaining.
