The first day of Olympic competition is off to a good start for Team USA and the Virginia Cavaliers.
Virginia’s own Gretchen Walsh and Kate Douglass earned silver in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay this afternoon in Paris. Together with teammates Torri Huske and Simone Manuel, Team USA clocked a collective time and American record of 3:30.20, coming in second to Australia’s 3:28.92. China followed the Americans, earning bronze with a time of 3:30.30
Earlier this morning, the team won the women’s heat for the event, building anticipation for the eventual silver-medalists.
Walsh, a senior at Virginia and first-time Olympian, is expected to meet the podium again in the 100m butterfly.
