Today was a record-breaking one in Charlottesville today where Virginia Cavaliers graduate attackman Payton Cormier broke the DI all-time record in goals (222). Thanks to his eight-goal performance against St Joseph’s, UVA ran away to a 17-11 win in the first round the NCAA Tournament. The game started off fast-paced in the first quarter with a 6-4 Virginia lead and ended chippy with 22 turnovers in the second half. However, a 10-4 run in the second and third quarters and a drastic Virginia shot comparison of 48-29 was too much for the Hawks to overcome.
“When you think about the game we’ve inherited from the Native Americans, it’s supposed to be physical, It’s supposed to be tough,” head coach Lars Tiffany said.
