The Virginia Cavaliers will look for sizable production out of its linebackers in year three under head coach Tony Elliott and defensive coordinator John Rudzinski’s hybrid 4-2-5 scheme. The linebacker position was one of the few bright spots for this defense a season ago, accounting for 27.3% of all tackles made by Cavalier players.
Linebackers coach Mike Adams enters his first season with the ‘Hoos after spending four years at Mercer in the FCS where he served as the defensive pass game coordinator as well as the safeties coach for the Bears. Adams’ relationship with Coach Elliott goes back to 2006 when the two coached alongside each other as assistants at South Carolina State for two seasons.
