With the start of college football season only a couple months away, preseason rankings and Heisman watch lists are starting to appear. One name that could appear on those lists is UVA’s electric quarterback, Bryce Perkins. A Virginia football player for Heisman? Sounds crazy, but hear me out.
Last season the Cavalier signal caller threw for 2,680 yards and 25 touchdowns with only nine interceptions. The multi-dimensional Perkins also ran for 923 yards and nine touchdowns. Those numbers put him in some elite company in recent years. Here are the other Power Five conferences QB’s to have at least 2,500 passing yards, 25 passing TD’s and 900 rushing yards in a season since 2000:
- Lamar Jackson
- Deshaun Watson
- JT Barrett
- Dak Prescott
- Johnny Manziel
- Cam Newton
- Vince Young
Half of those QB’s won the Heisman.
