Analyzing Virginia football’s path to bowl eligibility

The Virginia Cavaliers are off to a 4-1 start in Tony Elliott’s third year, outperforming most preseason expectations and putting themselves in prime position to achieve bowl eligibility despite a back loaded schedule.

The Wahoo program hasn’t been bowl eligible since 2021, hasn’t played in a bowl game since 2019, and hasn’t won one since 2018. Getting to 6-6 in the regular season and qualifying for the postseason would be an unquestionable success in year three of the Elliott era.

With four ranked opponents on the schedule, a game in Blacksburg where the Cavaliers haven’t won this century, and a game against the Louisville Cardinals who are favored by 7.
