The Butler Bulldogs tried to play Cinderella once again, but came short in their upset bid against the Virginia Cavaliers. Butler led during the second half, but UVA went on to win 77-69 Saturday, clinching a berth in the Sweet 16.
It was a three-point game with 30 seconds to play, but Butler couldn't pull off the upset. Late, clutch free throws by UVA sealed the win.
Andrew Chrabascz led the way for Butler with 25 points. He started the game 9 of 10 from the field, but cooled off and missed his last four shots. Roosevelt Jones added 18 points and took over for Butler late.
The Cavaliers were led by Anthony Gill and his 19 points and seven rebounds. Malcolm Brogdon had 22 points, five rebounds and five assists. He came up big late with free throws. Two others had double-figures for UVA in its balanced attack.
Virginia advances to face Iowa State next week in the Sweet 16. The Cyclones defeated Arkansas-Little Rock earlier Saturday.
