Villanova’s offense got going early against the Saint Francis University Red Flashes, and the defense held on tight through most of the game, allowing the ‘Cats to run into the new Andrew J. Talley Athletic Center with a 31-21 victory, and a date with South Dakota State next week. The playoff victory is another feather in head coach Andy Talley’s cap as he tries to close out his Villanova career with yet another playoff run.
Receiving the opening kick-off, Villanova marched downfield, to kick a short field goal and go ahead 3-0 on SFU early on. The Wildcats would force a quick punt then score again on their second possession, before SFU answered with a long, and quick, pass for the first score of their own, pulling back within three points.
