While Villanova stumbled in the non-conference, Marquette broke into the Top 25 and St. John’s went undefeated in their first 12 games. While many experts were still picking Villanova to win the Big East, others said that it was now Marquette or possibly the Johnnies as a dark horse that were now in the poll position for the race to a conference title.
