The Villanova Wildcats are moving on, after holding off a resilient Winthrop Eagles team in a 73-63 opening round win.
The ‘Cats initially jumped out to a strong start and grabbed a quick double-digit lead, before Winthrop settled in and made it a 34-33 game at halftime.
After the break, the Wildcats went on a small run to gain some separation and locked down defensively, holding the Eagles to below 30% on the floor in the second half.
Jeremiah Robinson-Earl led the way with 22 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, one steal, and three blocks.
