The news we knew was coming but hoped never would is here. Former Villanova Wildcats head coach Rollie Massimino passed away today at his home in Florida.
This is as tough a loss as the Villanova Basketball family has had to deal with in quite some time. Massimino was an immense father figure to Jay Wright, and to the extended program in general.
What he did at Villanova on the court makes him a legend at the school, but his overall impact to the sport goes well beyond his time on the Main Line.
Massimino was one of the architects of Big East basketball’s dominance, and he continued to coach - at an extremely high level - until his very last days due to his love for the game.
