As the Washington Capitals deplaned in Minneapolis on their first road trip of their inaugural NHL season, forward Jack Egers carefully dodged passengers while walking his dog, George, through the terminal. Egers gripped a leash with his right hand, and there was a collar at the end of it, but it held no dog – at least none that the eye could see.
“I like the guys to have a laugh or two, to be relaxed,” Capitals coach Jimmy Anderson explained to the Washington Evening Star during that season.
