Marc-Andre Fleury was walking to his room on the 16th floor of the Marriott HarborCenter in Buffalo, New York, the night of March 9 when a photograph caught his eye.
On the front door next to Fleury’s room, someone attached a picture of a hockey player sacrificing his body to block a shot.
The Golden Knights goaltender figured it was a joke perpetrated by one of his teammates.
So, he knocked.
Payton Francher, a senior hockey player at Victor (New York) High School, looked through the peephole.
“He was like, ‘Oh my God, I think it’s Marc-Andre Fleury at our door,’ ” said Victor hockey coach Mike Ferreri, whose team was in town for the state tournament.
