It was Commodores vs. Commodores through intensive self-scouting for Derek Mason and Vanderbilt during their bye last week.
The Vanderbilt coach said he and his staff used the bye week for heavy-duty strategy sessions to prepare for Saturday’s matchup against Auburn.
In one corner: Mason and the Commodores’ defense.
In the other: Offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig and the Commodores’ offense.
The two bounced ideas off each other during the week, planning as if each unit would be playing against the other to point out potential weaknesses and identify room for improvement.
Mason said that Ludwig discussed ways that a team would design a game plan against Vanderbilt’s defense, and that Mason in turn prepared ways to combat the Vanderbilt offensive unit.
