Vandy's Snow Ball Melts in Hell, Dansby Swanson, Diamondbacks Reach Last-Minute Agreement

Dansby Swanson waited as long as he could to officially retire his red, white, and blue Sunday uniform. The top overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks today, earning $6.5m in the process.

Dansby Swanson and the Arizona Diamondbacks struck an 11th-hour deal on Friday, ending the Vanderbilt's star college tenure. The Commodore shortstop signed a contract with a reported $6.5 million signing bonus to avoid becoming the second straight #1 overall pick pass up a professional deal and return to amateur baseball.

Swanson was the final Vanderbilt athlete to ink a professional contract; his deal was officially reported by the Diamondbacks at 5:03 PM Eastern time - three minutes past the signing deadline.
