Vanderbilt survives hot-shooting LSU, 96-89

The LSU Tigers couldn’t miss from beyond the arc on Thursday night. Luckily, the Vanderbilt Commodores weren’t missing much, either.

Vanderbilt shot 16-of-33 on three-pointers and 53 percent overall and after building a 20-point lead midway through the second half, the Commodores hung on to pick up the win in the Southeastern Conference opener.

It was Bryce Drew’s first SEC win and also his first road win in his maiden voyage as the Vanderbilt head man. Riley LaChance led five Commodores in double figures with 24 points, followed closely by Matthew Fisher-Davis with 23. Luke Kornet had 14, Payton Willis had 11, and Nolan Cressler had 10 points off the bench.
