The Vanderbilt Commodores played the Tennessee State Tigers on Saturday afternoon, a team that plays in the NCAA’s Football Championship Subdivision, which means they are allowed to give 63 athletic scholarships for football. Vanderbilt, a team that plays in the NCAA’s Football Bowl Subdivision, is allowed to give 85 scholarships for football.
In spite of literally having 22 more football scholarships than the other team, Vanderbilt trailed 13-10 at halftime and needed a fourth-down stand at their own 15-yard line late in the fourth quarter to finally hold off Tennessee State. As a reminder, Tennessee State is an FCS team and only has 63 scholarships to give in the sport of football.
