A pair of guards will be leaving the Vanderbilt basketball program after being granted a release from their scholarships, paving the way for the Commodores to add to their already impressive recruiting haul for 2018. Guards Payton Willis and Larry Austin Jr. will not return to the program in 2018-19, creating space for the team to add five-star prospect Romeo Langford should he choose Vandy.
The departures are a blow to the program’s backcourt depth, but should be an easy fix. Willis, a 6’4 combo guard, made only four starts last season despite Matthew Fisher-Davis’s season-ending shoulder injury.
