As the manager of Vanderbilt’s theatre costume shop, Sargent sees some similarities between football uniforms and costumes.
“Football and live spectator sports are a form of theatre,” Sargent said. “You have the spectators, the costumes, and the players. Actors put on a costume and feel like they’re in character, so I feel like athletes have the same effect with their uniform. Whatever it is, it influences them when they go on the field.”
Sargent, who has worked at Vanderbilt for 14 years, considers herself a traditionalist, so it’s no surprise that the new “Deep Water” alternates were a bit too much of a departure for her tastes.
