For the first time, the 2016 Commodore squad practiced at Hawkins Field last week, with plenty of new faces and without some past stars. Yet, new or old, each player on the field shared something in common: The same uniform, consisting of a plain black shirt, white baseball pants and logo-less black hat, save for a Nike swoosh.
Tim Corbin’s tradition of requiring his players earn their gear heavily reflects his plan where positions are rented. Under his system, Corbin plays no favorites, as even stars from last season aren’t necessarily guaranteed to start for the upcoming season.
