For most of Saturday night, it looked like Vanderbilt was going to take a loss to a good Chattanooga team. The Mocs, who came into the game with a record of 8-2 and having already beaten Tennessee in their season opener, led 38-34 at the half and held a 62-53 lead with 9:38 to go.
But with the Mocs holding a 64-56 lead with just under eight minutes left, Matthew Fisher-Davis was fouled on a three-point attempt and proceeded to make all three free throws. Then Riley LaChance got going, sinking four free throws over the next couple of minutes before nailing a three-pointer to tie the game at 68 with 4:02 left.
