Dansby Swanson selected first overall in MLB Draft

This is the second time in school history that a Commodore has been selected first overall since the Tampa Bay Devil Rays selected David Price in 2007. Coincidentally, Price was in attendance at Vanderbilt’s Super Regional game.

Swanson, the 2014 College World Series Most Outstanding Player, was named second-team All-SEC and a Golden Spikes Award finalist. He currently leads the Commodores in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, doubles, triples, home runs, and runs.

The Diamondbacks have a history of drafting players with Vanderbilt connections under their new leadership. Just last season, they drafted reliever Jared Miller in the 11th round and Vanderbilt commits Touki Toussaint (1st), Cody Reed (2nd), and Isan Diaz (Competitive Balance Round B).
