“It wasn’t a very hard decision,” Wakefield told Frank Frangie and Rick Ballou on 1010XL Jax Sports Radio on Signing Day when asked about his choice to play for the Commodores.
“The biggest factor was definitely the prestige of the college and education because education is very important to me,” Wakefield said. “Anybody who knows Vanderbilt knows Vanderbilt is the Ivy League of the South. My body might get worn down, but my mind — that’s something I have to cherish”
A chance to play in the nation’s best conference also helped. “I’m from Florida and the SEC is always the best,” he said.
