In the second half of 2021, the Vancouver Whitecaps looked like they might have a path to being legitimately good. But one area that stood out right away was the quality of the “guys” was a bit lacking. When Vanni Sartini had to turn to his depth players he was frequently having to lean on players who were out of position or who were lacking in ability. In a weak-link game (a game where the winner is more likely to be determined by who doesn’t have the worst player rather than who has the best player) that’s a bad thing.
