Whitecaps FC2 (WFC2) left back Deklan Wynne has been called up by the New Zealand national team for the upcoming 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup – a precursor to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia next year.
Entering the tournament as Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Nations Cup winners, the Kiwis are in Group A and face hosts Russia in the opening match on Saturday, June 17. New Zealand will then face CONCACAF champions Mexico on Wednesday, June 21 before wrapping up the group stage against last year’s EURO champions Portugal on Saturday, June 24.
