Vancouver appears to finally have found their third-string keeper in Homegrown shot stopper Sean Melvin, inking him to a 2018 MLS deal Wednesday.
The contract is good for this season, with an option for the 2019-2021 campaigns. He will join the club pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate. The Victoria native has the honor of being the second Vancouver island product to feature for the Whitecaps.
After loaning Spencer Richey to FC Cincinnati, Vancouver has been in search of an emergency keeper and Melvin fits the bill. Given that he is behind Stefan Marinovic and Brian Rowe, it is unlikely that Melvin will be seeing too many minutes in goal.
